Free Thinking
At one time being Liberal didn't mean being a Democrat. I think if you look back on our recent history some of our Democrats were very conservative.
The democratic party no longer has guys like Harry Truman, Franklin Roosevelt or for that matter John Kennedy. Yes they did have some of the modern day liberalisms like tax increases or welfare, nothing like the we see today in the PC crowd.
I do remember going to college and being taught by a professor that was always supportive of the labor union causes. I openly disagreed with him and I still got good grades. I doubt you can disagree today judging by what I have seen in recent years and still get good grades.
Today the national parties are conservative or liberal. There appears to be no middle ground. Those that now teach are far to the left and they are supported by a shrinking group of citizens that are liberal. I don't remember being taught some of the sensitive issues that now are being forced on our young people. I am from the day when spanking our youngsters was acceptable. We didn't question authority and that authority was my DAD.
Dad was a union type that voted democratic. He was also conservative and he liked Ike and he didn't like Truman. He did believe in fighting for what is right and putting in your 8 hours. He refused welfare even though we had some tough times along the way. He fought in WW II and still was able to come home and raise a family and work until he was on social security.
My High School teachers were not advocates for something. The school allowed Military recruiters to come to school and recruit our senior boys.
We were taught about our Nation's history, men like Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson and Franklin. We had women teachers teaching us about MEN that were important to the history and the founding of this nation. Yes there is a place for teaching our children about activist but these activists didn't get elected nor did they shape our nation.
Martin Luther King in modern history came the closest to shaping our national policy. Yet I challenge anyone to find where he got elected or cast one vote in our democracy. The same goes for Malcolm ''X''.
Only in later years did I hear or read about Susan B. Anthony.
Many of our creative inventors and scientists succeeded despite our school system. Look at the famous drop outs: Einstein, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.
Trying to teach our children a test will never get us where we want to be. Japan does that but the real inventions have come from U.S. universities. Suppressing that free thinking will destroy this nation and I see it everyday. Things have changed and we must recognize the change.
