Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

Thank you for the update. I think the point that was being made was at some point our school district must meet and get together with Violet Twp and Pickerington.

I believe that the City Manager, The Twp. Operations Manager and Dr. Thiede do meet regularly. If that is happening and I hope it is, then the next step will be to go public just in an effort to inform the public.

If the final report of this committee is going to be the least bit credible then input from the City and Twp. must be included. I think we have past the point of Mr. Stemen counting swings sets to predict future enrollment. I guess how can you make plans without knowing what you all will need?

Second value of a public forum will be to unite the community. If all of voters knew what to look forward to then I think there might some softening of resistance to a tax increase where it is truly needed. I think this would be a great learning event for not only the city and twp leaders but the school board.

As we see here on this web site there are many that oppose ANY tax increase. Most of the time we see the supporters of these levies talk about ''THEIR NEED'' or their Children's need. I never see or hear about the tax payers ability to provide those needs.

I think the new city council has been slow to talk about their projects. I also think those in charge at the Township are media shy as well. The other problem I believe is that much of what is working out right now is part of law suits and the parties are restricted in what they can say publicly.

With all of that said the school district must plan with what data they currently have.

If for example the school board could say, in conjunction with Pickerington and Violet, that they will hold the growth to a certain enrollment level and instead of 4 years that they will need a new Middle school it will 8 years. If these government entities could present and follow a strict plan I think there would be less reluctance on the part of the voters to actually see that light at then end of the tunnel.

Our recent past history has been to fight and sue each other. Even the Former Cocky Mayor Hughes would publicly challenge and ridicule those in the township and then wonder why he couldn't make a deal with them in private.

I think haveing all of our elected officials sit on a stage and ''take the heat'' so to speak and just listen. The first meeting could be a learning session for those that make the decisions. I would suggest that the questions from the public are NOT CENSORED like in that past.

There after the three entities could present their plans and make them public to both inform and show unity. The divide between the City and the Twp., the divide between the North and Central areas are examples of issues that need to be resolved if this community will ever move forward.
