Dear Part Loyal:
Where were you in 1945?
Since you like to celebrate war time milestones what about the Marines raising the American flag over that god forsaken island of Iwo Jima? We lost over 8,000 Americans in taking that island in 1945. It had nothing but volcanic ash and very few trees. The day before that flag was raised the Japanese slaughtered a Philippine village of 1500 men, women, and children. To save their bullets and ammunition they hacked to death the villagers with their swords and bayonets.
Did you forget D-day? I didn?’t remember seeing it posted last June on this site. Both of these milestones were 60 years ago. Remember we lost 7,000 men in one day there on the beaches of Normandy in 1944.
Part Loyal, your current attitude prevailed among the America public in the 1930s. We were isolationist. While America endured a depression the Germans and the Japanese were raiding neighboring countries and committing atrocities. Like the little village in the Philippines and in mainland China, the Japs were slaughtering the native citizens with swords and bayonets and America stayed within its borders. When Hitler was killing first the infirmed in his country then the Jews, America stayed within its borders.
Are our children being taught about those atrocities? Did we ever hear where the American government ever starved or mistreated those Japanese that were interned in this country?
Just in two battles our American History has documented that we lost 13,000 American lives fighting for our own survival. Or was it fighting the injustices of a DICTATORSHIP? Do you really believe we would be safer here in American if our fathers, our uncles and our grandfathers had not fought that Second World War in foreign countries? If these dictators had been successful in conquering the European continent would they have been satisfied with staying on their side of the ocean?
Clearly every world leader believed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction within their borders and Saddam intended to use them against Israel. Clearly they had the means and the WILL to deliver those weapons with the illegal long range missiles that were found in the country during and after March of 2003. I suspect that we will find those weapons someday when we invade Syria.
To those 1500 Men and Women that have given their lives to protect our basic freedoms of not only America but the entire world you all have my heart felt gratitude. I only hope my Children do not forget your sacrifices in 60 years.
In 24 short months you have already made a difference. There have been elections in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and of all places within the people of Palestine. Now we are hearing about Lebanon demanding free elections without the Dictatorship interferences from Syria. I am sure America will not allow this area of the world to go back to the way things were before March of 2003 or 9/11. Even the UN is calling for democratic elections. To our troops you accomplished your mission. American must now finish converting the rest of this world to democracy.
Our guiding light and inspiration should be what our forefathers did with JAPAN AND GERMANY and what these two countries have become.
