Diley Road TIF

Posted in: PATA
Isn't there another option that no ones looked at? Why can't the city TIF the Diley Rd expansion? (they do have TIF'd areas with no commercial development, so it's nothing new) Let the schools fund their infrastructure - that's been their MO. Use the school system to fund infrastructure then cram it full of kids. Maybe we can get those developers to donate some trailers to the school system. I'd suggest they build a school or two but I think we'd all like the schools to have a longer shelf life than some of the houses being built.

Now that sounds like something that Bill Wright, Doug Parker and Mike Sabitino could vote yes for. Doug might actually show up for a meeting!

already partly TIFED

The Drug Mart terminus of the project is already a TIF so any property taxes from the increase invaluation of those properties will not go to the schools, fire department and police department for about nine more years. This also allowed the developers of this strip mall to not have to spend any money to put in infrastructure to support their investment, developers and landowneres who reportedly include former Judge Don McAliffe and also Daryl Berry who ownned or did own land in this particular TIF ACROSS the street in the Windmiller Ponds area which was included in this project as it seemed to grow octopus arms.

At one time in a service committee meeting some years ago, Mr. Berry promised to build the connecting road to Diley (road, sewer etc behind Kroger's) quickly, to enhance the speed of commercial development along this connecting road.....to allay council members concerns about commercial development.... if only council would let him change his parcel in the area to residental zoning instead of commercial so that homes could be built there......At the time, some of us predicted his promises would evaporate into a TIF in the future....and approximately 18 months later...this road did get put into a TIF and Mr. Berry and associates or those whom he sold the land to...did not spend one penny building this road or associated infrastructure behind Kroger to the best of my knowledge. The commercial that has located there is in a TIF to pay for the road and then MR. Maxey lobbied for Colonial Heating and Cooling to get an additional tax incentive package to locate there.

Supposedly, it is against Ohio law to TIF residential properties...which is or will be soon, most of DILEY Road NOW, thanks to past city leadership who changing the plans along Diley from projected commercial/ industial development to residential on most areas of DILEY.

I am sure Mr. Wright and Mr. Sabation will try to propose that any impact fees collected by any future homesto be built along Diley to be directed to the road expansion instead of the ta issue Mr. O'Brien has proposed....in essence sucking the air out of any use of that money for other badly needed infrastructure in the city... instead of taking advantage of our federal and state tax dollars being invested right here in our community. Hopefully you will have an opportunity to let your voice be heard at the ballot box on this issue...if they do not derail this by the attempted diversion of any impact fees from this area.
Thanks, Lisa

We can always count on you for factual info on these important issues. Daryl Berry has temporarily moved a few miles down the road to Lancaster, where he is busy building condos/apts to further burden the schools & infrastructure there.I don't think he is finished with our community yet.He will return when things cool down.Unfortunately, the Diley residents are blaming the current council for problems created by ''build houses to the max'' previous councils. But hey, what are a few thousand homes on a 2 lane road? Just add the traffic to 256/70 to get in or out. Then instead of taking 20 min to get through, it will take 30 or 40.Don't you just love progress?
