Wouldn't it more prudent to request informal talks within our community prior to putting ourselves under the gun with a petition and the a vote and the 8 months for a commission to complete their work.

I would suggest that those interested contact their respective election leaders and request some informal talk be set up. Many of the issue could be ironed out prior to any vote. It may reveal that Merger is not a good idea or in may reveal it would sole 90% of our mutual problems.

Let's not repeat Randy Hughes comments and rush into this.

I think your idea of an informal panel or group/interested parties meeting to get some ideas and talks going is a good idea.

At the very least it would supply a starting point for the formal commission to begin their work, should it ever come to that.

A merger is not a panacea, but it at least should be seriously studied.
