Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

Help me understand...

Posted in: PATA
Dear PO'd

I received a phone call that you may have some questions. All BOE members email addresses & home phone numbers are available on the PLSD website.

I encourage people with questions to please ask - I am happy to answer or try to get the information if I do not have it.

I am not the poster tigerpanther and quite frankly do not agree with all of their views - so please if you are going to try to ''out'' someone on this website please be accurate. I also do not have personal experience in Marching Band & various high school sports as stated - my kids are in the 2nd & 4th grades.

If people have questions for me I can be reached via email.

I encourage the public to come to the public meeting on Thursday, February 12th from 5-7:30pm at Central High School. It will be a good opportunity to see exactly what improvements have been made to Central High School. It's not necessary to atttend the entire meeting, it's very informal - both committee & Board members as well as administration will be there.

Please come and provide input.

Thanks,
Lots of little things add up

Athletic facilities, at least those at North, are always going to be the first example. Football stadium, soccer stadium, on and on.

Do we really need a high tech video production facility to broadcast the morning announcements? What ever happened to a simple 'squawk box'?

The back stage area in the theater rivals that in the Ohio Theater and Palace Theater. Definite overkill.

Lots of money to be saved if you look in the right places.

(And the Westerville Central facility is way over the top. Sure hope the 'keepin' up with the Joneses crowd' doesn't try to match it with Pickerington South.)
Theatre area size, etc.

I have not been backstage at Central for awhile now, and have been backstage at North once or twice.

I may be wrong, but my memory tells me that Central's backstage area is comparable to that of North's, but what the exact size of them both is I do not know. Both schools do an outstanding job of presenting their plays and musicals.

The soccer stadium at North was originally to have lights installed, but the board dropped them, meaning evening varsity soccer matches must be played in the football stadium. Have you seen late-season JV soccer matches and JV or freshman football games played in the soccer stadium? The 4th quarter is played in increasing darkness, as there are no lights. It makes it hard on the players, officials and fans to finish the games off properly. Now there are people talking about the possibility of building a separate, smaller pressbox for the soccer stadium. What they should have done was to align both the football field and soccer field so that the same pressbox could have served the needs of both fields, utilizing windows in both the front and back to accomodate those working in the pressbox. Of course, there is still the issue of lights, but, again, no one bothered to ask the AD or the coaches for their input.

Wes Monhollen has consistently pushed for a soccer stadium for Central. While a good idea in theory, it isn't something I see ever happening unless a sugar daddy lands in Pickerington and says they will build it at no cost to the district.
