Didn't address the issue
I was making comments on the complaints published about the ''Athletic Boosters''.
I get no direct benefit from any improvements to the schools as my children have all graduated from our schools. They went to PHS, and we live in the North district. At least, it's the North district until at such time they do a boundary change!
I could just vote no on all school issues since I have no kids or grandkids in PLSD. I study as much as I can find whenever the tax issues are put on the ballot. I did not support the last issue, and I am waiting to see what the board puts on this time. There is a definite need, but we are in the unfortunate position not to have a large business tax base which would help alleviate some pressures on the homeowner. Given the state of the economy, even that is not a guarantee, as witness Grandview losing their three(I believe) largest employers in the past several years.
I spend time talking to parents and students at both Central and North. The ''cultural divide'' is generally coming from the parents, NOT the students. The students by-and-large don't have that mindset. There will always be some who do have that mindset, but I do not believe the division is as large as some would have us believe.
I also went through 12 years of private schools, so I know what it is like to get no direct benefit from paying school taxes. My parents sacrificed to give us that opportunity, but I still had to make money to help satisfy my tuition obligation, as I came from a large family.
