I have read the Pickerington This Week article on the Diley Road referendum five times now and I am still confused.
It starts out that the Finance Director will not certify the petitions because this resolution is the 9th action by council on this public works project. State law only allows a referendum on the first action.
Now here comes the ''I didn't have sex with that woman'' moment.
Mike Sabatino who voted on at least two of these actions now wants to place the issue before the voters. He says he think he has the four votes. Here is his quotes in this article:
''Sabatino said he hopes to convince council to put the issue before voters''
''Judging by what other council members have said to me, the potential is there for at least four votes (in favor), which is what it would take to make it happen.''
Now lets look at the quotes of four other council persons in the very same article:
''Councilmen Brian Wisniewski and Mitch O'Brien and council President Heidi Riggs said they will not support putting the question on the ballot.''
Now they sound pretty much against putting the issue on than ballot.
So what did Hackworth have to say in the same article?
Councilman Ted Hackworth said he might be in favor of putting the question before voters.
''Yes, I would, if I understood what the question is,'' he said. ''Obviously, if you put something on the ballot, it's a yes or no question.''
''What is the question that the residents want us to ask the voters?'' Hackworth said. ''It's not three or five lanes.''
Yet another question:
''How do you fund it?'' Hackworth said. ''The state has already told us they won't fund it.''
Has MACKENZIE FRY caught the little coffee bean in a big lie?
It doesn't look like the little bean has even three votes if Parker is waiting to see how things flow.
It is my understanding to introduce an ordinance like the coffee bean is asking them to do you must have a council matic waiver. For an ordinance it takes 6 votes not 4 votes Mr. Sabatino for that waiver. It will take an ordinance to appropriate the $7 - $8 thousand for the special election.
To get a committee waiver this must go through service and then maybe finance. To get these two waivers it would require ALL members of these committees to sign the waiver. Please see the committee re-org chart. The four above mentioned names are on all of the committees.
So Coffee Bean which one of the 2 or 3 votes you going flip on council? Have you even talked to these other council people? What is the question you want to ask the voters?
