Ya,schools are part of problem

Posted in: PATA
Of course the schools are a chunk of the mess.
Doesn't the burdon of even more homes (i.e. kids) continue the mess (and maybe even make it worse)?
Isn't this about the one year moritorium anniversary? (and thereby it's expiration) (like the builders really slowed down -- NOT !!)

So where's the plan to keep the builders from burying this whole place -- schools and all?

City's fault

I believe you are correct that the city let their so-called moratorium lapse the last couple of days. I guess the hope is that the builder's will not bury the city in building permit applications.

I believe slowly the city is addressing their problems. I think it may take a few months maybe a year to establish the new city policy on growth. I do believe that it will happen and it will be defendable in court. I am hearing that they have or are about to hire some heavy weights in the art of controlling city growth. They may be imposing impact fees along with controlling growth in the future.

Once these policies are in place I think the unincorporated township residents will wish they could control their growth but hay they can't decide on whether they want Home Rule.

Our school district faces a number of issue in the city of Pickerington and in the city of Columbus. The township represents 43% of the school population currently. I am hearing that COlumbus will jump in precentage once they have those high density build along Refugee Road.

The township is already going to get yet another Dominion development across from the North High school. Are they up to the fight?

Home Rule No Control

Attended the Trustees' meeting on Home Rule. I believe the attorneys stated that Home Rule would not give the Trustees control over development of more houses.
Tunnel vision

Will HOME RULE provide the needed power to control housing developments?

First Home Rule will not and can control growth with elected leaders and their selective tunnel vision.

The very first issue that Home Rule gives the Township is the power to have a water and sewer system. Many communities control their growth with these two utilities. If they can't poop they can't build the house.

They can pass ordinances or resolutions and they can impose fines. They can impose moratoriums and if they really tried and pushed the bubble they could control their growth.

THE TEST WILL BE DO OUR TRUSTEES HAVE THE BALLS TO TEST THE LEGAL BATTLES THAT THEY WILL FACE AND WILL THEY HAVE THE AGGRESSIVENESS TO FIGHT IN COURT FOR THE RESIDENTS? THE LAW IS NOT ABSOLUTE. THEY MUST BE CREATIVE. IT MAY TAKE A COUPLE OF ELECTION CYCLES TO FIND TRUSTEES WITH ENOUGH CREATIVE THINKING TO ACCOMPLISH OUR MUTUAL GOALS OF CONTROLLING GROWTH.
