The time is quickly approaching for Mayor Shaver and his administration to decide whether or not to live uo to his campaign promises.
Mayor Shaver soon must decide if he is going to live up to the campaign promises he made in his Elect David Shaver Mayor election campaign flyer. The following are direct quotes from his flyer:
'' I WILL CONTINUE TO BE AN ADVOCATE OF THE WISHES OF THE CITIZENS AND NOT OF THE BUILDING INDUSTRY AND OTHER SPECIAL INTERESTS WHO CURRENTLY HAVE THE MOST INFLUENCE AT CITY HALL. I WILL RETURN INTEGRITY AND ETHICS TO OUR CITY GOVERNMENT. ''
'' I BELIEVE IN THE RIGHTS OF CITIZENS UNDER THE CONSTITUTION TO PETITION THE GOVERNMENT. I WILL NOT, AS DOES THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION, FIGHT CITIZEN EFFORTS TO PLACE IMPORTANT ISSUES BEFORE THE VOTERS. ''
The above represent 2 quotes from the campaign flyer.
I hope that these are sincere convictions and not an empty campaign promise that is forgotten shortly after the inauguration.
We should all remember the wisdom of not making any promises we do not intend to keep. I remember this valuable lesson in life from my experiences with my children, sometimes I would forget something I had promised and they would remind me.
After all Mr. Shaver felt that we need to have ethics and integrity in city government. I could not agree more on that principle. My advice to the Mayor is '' Say what you mean & mean what you say ''.
This is a perfect opportunity to lead by example. Show the citizens of Pickerington that you really are a man that means what he says, and promises do have to be kept.
Mr. Mayor please do not attempt to obstruct the right of the citizens to place this important issue before the voters, do not hide behind the POTENTIAL loss of funding statement. THE LOSS OF THE FUNDING OF THE SEWER PLANT EXPANSION WAS NOT A CONCERN TO YOU LAST YEAR. We will have to expand the sewer plant in the near future and I expect that with the proper effort a funding solution will be found, just the same way that if there is a need in 17 years (according to ODOT projections) for 5 lanes we will be able to find a proper funding solution. This way the question will be answered by the wishes of the entire community as expressed by a vote of the entire community, AND NOT DECIDED BY THE NET DIFFERENCE OF THE VOTE OF 1 COUNCIL MEMBER.
My promise to Pickerington residents is this, if the people vote, I will support whatever the wishes of the majority are and work to deliver the best finished product at the most efficient cost.
MR. Mayor I urge you for the good of the entire City population to keep your word and let the people vote.
