clarification
300 band uniforms? Let's do some math. 300+ band jackets. 300+ white bibs. 300+ purple bibs. This is what central has for their use. If it is muddy, they are able to wear their purple bids at Friday night games and save their white bids for their competitions on Saturdays. Plus, their summer uniforms.
North only has one jacket and one pair of black bids. Plus, their summer uniforms.
In order to divide the uniforms, it would mean that each band could only have 150 persons (without only wearing bibs). Last year each band had more.

Pressure from WHOM?
I am not familiar with the illnesses of the Central Band Director but I also am not ashamed to point out the obvious. I am sorry that someone thinks he had pressure placed on him Thursday night and that is only a 24 hour notice.
So to the Band Director Please get well soon.
Now to the Pickerington Area Chamber of commerce you are the most disorganized group I have ever seen. If you are going to accept those tens of thousands of dollars from the city to put in this event then get your acts together by March and stop leaning on the tax payers to support your ineptness.
To the Pickerington School Board and the disparity between the north and south school districts. You are facing a crisis and you don't know it yet. You have supported a regime at Lockville road for years and now they have platted literally THOUSANDS of NEW lots in the city and township and they have entice builders to build starter and low end homes into our school district. In allowing this percentage of low end homes into the district the township people have retaliated by separating the two districts and very blatantly promoted a huge image gap of a poor minority school district versus a new rich district.
The voters in the poor district resent the disproportional distribution of funds and operating expenditures. I believe you got away with one last year because the North School was just starting up. This year and in future years that riff will grow judging just by the current attitudes and board actions in how they spend OUR money. Just because the entire board lives in the township and they will soon be the minority of parents should weigh heavy on all of our minds.
There needs to be some real attitude changes and soon.

While I'm still wet and mad...
The Chamber has become so complacent with handling the Violet Festival that it is evident that it is time for either new leadership or a new format. Now before you come all unhinged at what I am saying, let me say that I truly appreciate all that Ms. Mayle and company have done for the event and I understand that everyone will b!tch about the festival but not volunteer to help change it. What I believe they are basing the format on is the opinion that it ain?’t broke so why fix it. What they do is tried and true. By repeating the format over and over again, problems are reduced, challenges are anticipated and there are less last minute issues to have to handle.
Does the festival need rehabilitation? Yes. Is the format old and stale? Yes. Are we sick to death of the heinous quality of the rides and other amusement venues for the kids? HE!! YES. Would we like better vendors? Yes. Would we like to see the festival changed to only three days? Yes.
We can complain and complain all we want, but like so many found out over the last couple of years, unless you are willing to step up and DO something about it, you might as well shut your mouth. It took some brave souls to quit talking about how bad city government was and change it. Now we need the same drive and initiative for the Violet Festival. Stop complaining and start volunteering.
I heard at the 4th of July festivities that the township was going to give more money to the city in support of that and that the city could expect a request for increased funding from the city to the Violet Festival this year. Well fine, if the city is giving more, perhaps they could ask for or demand more. How about a survey is sent out to all residents asking for what they want? Quit guessing and ask. Of course they would want Cedar Point and the Rose Bowl parade combined, but there might be some value in some of the feedback received.
I was disappointed in the Violet Festival this year. Not for the lack of commitment and dedication of the board or committees, but for the apathy of the residents being unwilling to volunteer to help make it our showcase, as we all feel it should be.
You can be part of the problem or part of the solution.

No Beer Garden
I'm hearing no beer garden next year. Apparently they continued to serve long after their permit allowed and long after repeated warnings from the PD to cease and desist.
Way to go Heitmeyer. Ruin it for everyone just because one reeling sot named Randall Hughes has a wooden leg that his lovely bride kept pouring pitcher after pitcher into. I haven't seen someone that wasted since the Grateful Dead concerts at Buckeye Lake. Well, maybe I haven?’t seen anyone that wasted since last year when Randall was in essentially the same condition with his same handler emptying kegs down his throat.
I cannot comprehend not only a former Mayor, former City Councilman and current high school teacher could let himself be seen in public in such a condition. And more incomprehensible is the fact that he strategically parked his fat drunken can at the table front and center on the alley with the overflowing outhouses within arm?’s reach. It was hard to discern where the worst odor was coming from.
I saw school board members in the area. You can?’t have missed the spectacle. Can you tolerate this public behavior of your teachers? His students, past present and future were exposed to something that they should not have had to see. What message are you and the dishonorable Hughes sending them? ?“Wait til you get to Rockin?’ Randall?’s class man. It?’s a party all year dude. For a six pack, you get straight A?’s.?”
Maybe losing the beer garden is for the best. Such public displays and flagrant disregard of the law is not the image we want to present to our youths who can stand by and watch it all.
