Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

Annexation Settlement

Posted in: PATA
I just have to ask the question - in this ''settlement'', who pays the developers' incentives? If you read the information far below and to the left as well as looking at some old newsletters, we're talking nearly $2,000,000 in give-aways to the developers and land owners in the north annexation area. Is it safe to assume that the city is still bound to the agreements? So potentially we are giving away $2M plus the numerous concessions the city has made to the township to settle this?

Ask yourself ''Is it really worth it??'' What tremendous amount of hidden revenue could there be that would offset the give-aways that would make this annexation, in its current form, lucrative to the city and the taxpayers?

If you feel it is not worth it, go to the council meetings and tell them. If you feel that you should be able to see what you're getting for what you're paying, go tell them that too.

It's just dollars and sense, right? We're giving something. What are we receiving besides more rooftops???

Dominion Homes

Isn't this 362 acre annexation mostly Dominion homes right? I believe they are calling that area Spring Creek. Somewhere a long time ago someone figured out that we would be losing or giving them discounts for sewer and water taps to the tune of nearly $2,000,000. Wasn't one of the initiatives a couple of years ago based on these incentives to annex residential property into Pickerington? Didn't Braum the attorney for these builders say they only wanted Pickerington to honor the pre-annexation agreements?

And last aren't these the guys suing the city?

Is the Township Trusttees about to stick it to the City residents once more? Do they have a rookie crew in the city hall willing to give away these millions to the very people that are suing us and asking for damages?

We've got a winner!!

Now you?’re getting it!

Actually it was more like $1.3M but with the rate increases it could potentially head towards $2M.

Yes, issues 17, 18 and 19 were precipitated by this madness.

Yes Brahm wants the city to honor the agreements.

The BIA is suing the city but yes, they are members of the BIA.

Yes, the Trustees are again sticking it to the city. They are facing reelection next year and need to clean their slate of controversial issues. They need to shift blame while there is still time.

Yes, there are some rookies in city hall.

Don?’t bet they will give away the house. Three readings to pass any legislation will take 6 weeks. Plenty of time for astute individuals like yourself to get involved in reviewing the documentation and getting answers to all your questions.

Don?’t sit idly by. Get involved in this decision.

Dealing with the southern annexation will be next on their agenda.

Put the blame where it belongs.

Let's remember who started the mess. Bushman and Council at that time, with pre-annexation agreements with developers, gave away a portion of the sewer and water capacity fees for Virginia Homes, put in Courtright Road to the Virginia Homes site, gave Dominion relief from park, storm water and permit fees and other considerations. Then the City passed the agreements by emergency legislation. The Fairfield County Commissioners allowed that annexation. The Trustees appealed the annexation to the courts but have not been able to win their appeal at this time.

The former Manager and former Council at that time are the folks to blame for the situation. Do not blame the current new Council members, their hands have been tied by agreements made previously. They are left with a mess to work through. Several of the new Council members were involved in trying to challenge those pre-annexations agreements. The Trustees also cannot change the City's previous actions.

Let's remember that cooperation between entities is being encouraged. I'm not saying I am happy with the developments but am willing to wait until the total proposal is revealed.
