Doctor Refuses To Treat Attorneys
Take your aches and pains somewhere else! That's a doctor's message to dozens of Columbus trial attorneys.
Dr. William Morris sent a letter to 40 or 50 attorneys around Columbus, stating if they or their family comes to him for treatment, they will be denied.
''Your life appears to be motivated by greed,'' Dr. William Morris writes. He continues with, ''Let this letter serve as official notice that I will not accept you or your family as patients.''
Dr. Morris has a clinic on East Livingston Avenue and Mount Carmel Health.
Attorney Frank Todaro says this adds more fuel to the political fire raging over malpractice insurance rates.
''I would hope that when I see a doctor that what he has in his mind and his heart is my best interest as the patient, not some type of political agenda,'' Todaro says.
The Ohio State Medical Board, which strongly advocates reform, does not advocate Morris' decision.
''He is not a member of the association and we would not advocate to this course of action among our members,'' they say.
Dr. Morris has been practicing since he graduated from the Medical College of Ohio in 1977.
In 1996, the family practitioner was successfully sued, accused of failing to properly diagnose an aneurism.
In an off-camera interview with 10TV, he admitted this letter is as much personal as it is political.
That was something Todaro was afraid of.
''This is too far out there to be true. I don't believe it to be true. And if it is, we are in a much sadder state than I think,'' Todaro says.
Dr. Morris told 10TV that this is most definitely true.
He says, ''I am a very straightforward and honest man. But if I think someone is so morally corrupt, I couldn't have a good relationship with them and they wouldn't want me as a physician.''
