Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

By now, most Pickerington parents have learned about the student who brought a gun to Ridgeview Junior High. There were two students involved, both of whom were expelled for one year. After that time, and if the students still reside in the school district, they will be re-admitted to Pickerington. Is there anyway that we, or the school board, can legally keep these students out of our school district?

When did that occur? Was it used in a threating manner or was it someone who wanted to be cool and show it off to his friends?

If it was a parents gun the board should expel the kid and make the parents come to school every day they're kids are expelled.

Safety in our Schools

It happened on March 17. A Ridgeview student had possession of a gun during school. According to the principal, he brought it to school for the purposes of giving it to another student to take home. I do not know if it was loaded. The Pickerington Police Department is working with the school to do a full investigation. I need to know what recourse a parent has to try and keep these students from re-entering our school system. I plan to follow up with the school officials one year from now and find out when and/or if the students will be returning. But is there anything else that can be done in the meantime?

Why Wait?

Why wait a year to follow up and see what was done to keep these kids out of Pickerington schools? My first thought is that there is probably some little-known state law that says the kids must be readmitted, but I would press the board and the administration very hard on this point: if we are not required to readmit the kids, DON'T DO IT! Think about the safety of the rest of the students and faculty/staff for once, and not cater to those who willfully violate the codes of conduct as well as the law.
