Zoning Board

All shucks I forgot about the Violet Township Zoning Board. First who appointed them? Was it Harry and Terry? Was it Bill Yaple? Clearly for years now Bill Yaple has filled Bob Harding's head with crap about the city to put in Newsletters and on this web site while remaining silent about the township.

First a little reality check on the zoning board. Yes it is made up of citizens and they are bound by state revised code. Who decides about the highways and roads to these residential developments? It sure isn't the Township. It is the MORPC. The Brentwood Farms is a great example of the total ineffectiveness of the Township Trustees. Terry Dunlap complains that they put (MORPC) put straight roads through the project and no stop signs. Yet Terry is against taking any control or responsibilty for roads and these decisions. Terry has it both ways and no one in the township is smart enough to figure it out. If something goes wrong Terry just blames some part of the county government. Please go to the next trustee meeting and every time the residents complain Terry just blames it on the County or state. Does he really wnt to fix the growth probl;ems? The township has no power to place stop signs let alone determine what and where the roads will go.

They can only sit back and wait for a handout. Say township residents why don't you just re-elect Terry and Harry next year and do what West Virginia does and name every thing after Terry and Harry. Can we now say that Violet Township is the West Virginia of this school district? How about the Harry Meyers Memorial Sewer Plant? The Terry Dunlap Allen Road/Pickerington Road interchange? How about making 204 one way east bound and Refugee Road one way west bound inside the city limits and that should help our traffic problems. How about a couple of toll roads? I think I saw some coal dust on one of the township roads yesterday do you guys have a coal mine out there?

I see that Pickerington is about to spend their hard earned cash from their general fund on improving I-70 and 256 interchange. However when the Township was asked to help last year with the expenses of this project they refused. I think the Pickerington City Council needs to make 204 a dead end. It isn't as if the township residents don't use this interchange. There are twice the number of residnets in Violet Township as in Pickerington yet they don't pay for the roads they must have to get to work nor are they even willing to discuss it. Yet the township residnets will load Pickerignton City Hall and complain about the project and how it is designed.

We're not in Kansas anymore...

I have to agree with the comments from OZ - I too, am happy with this past fall's election, but don't think our work is done.

As a township resident I have been very opposed to any type of merger as I didn't want the last administration to have any more contol than they already had - they have done enough damage. And were not in any way shape or form responsive to the needs of their constituents.

The next message that needs sent is that Township Residents want more control of their community - NOW. Our Township Trustee's will be more apt to consider Home Rule if they think their other option is merger. If they fail to take steps to control growth - I would be one township resident that would be happy to merge. This will be an election year coming up for both of them in 2005 - they need to know, they too, need to be responsive to the needs of their constituents or they will be out in the cold as well.

To Oz, from the ''Hypocrite''

It seems that you do not want to slow growth, you just want to stop it. Seems too bad that the trustees approved wherever you are living, you made it worse for those already living here.

As to big houses on large lots, that does slow down the number of children in the schools as well as very more likely paying for their children's education. Do the math.

Unfortunately, from reading the transfers in the Lanaster Gazette, the City is still building ''lots'' of houses on smaller lots.
Not true.

Never did I say anywhere that I wanted growth stopped. I however think there are a lot of benefits to people of all income levels living in Pickerington. Not just rich folks in big houses on big lots.

Step down off of your high-horse about large homes paying for their children's education. Yes larger homes pay more taxes - any simpleton - including yourself obviously figured that out. Unless you're living in a $700K+ house and you only have 1 child then you're causing a deficit for the school system to educate your child(ren).

Continue down the road with your blinders on that the city is causing all the problems with the school system. Pointing fingers has gotten us so far - it's bound to eventually help - right? Or is that the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?
