The Judge in Franklin County is still looking at the Moratorium and Two/Acre issues here in Pickerington. I am sure the BIA and the co/plaintiffs are willing to spend a lot of money to defeat the decision made at the ballot box by the voters in November 2002 on the Two houses/Acre.

If the voters lose, the original planned density will be in force which was in the vicinity of 2.6/2.7 houses per acre.

I believe the original moratorium was just for a year which will soon be up. I do not know what the Council will do about extending it in some fashion, if the Judge rules against it.

Also there were many condos being planned. Has anyone gotten the number of children coming from the apartments on Refugee beside the police station?
Growth and the two lots per

I believe Mrs. Ricketts posting points out some of the pit falls that may come Pickerington's way in the coming year. Certainly Judge Conner's decision will have a huge effect on our present and future zoning. However I think the difference now versus November 2002 is that we have a very receptive Council and Mayor in place to actually slow the growth.

Even if the judge rules against the citizens of Pickerington I believe the current council is willing to fight for our city and its residents and they will do everything they can to slow the growth. They may not call their new zoning laws two lots per acre but it will effectively do the same as the initiative passed in 2002.

There are a number of condos that slipped thru the cracks in last year's moratorium. I see them being built everywhere and I know there are more than the 100 total limited under that moratorium. I believe the numbers of students coming from these condos and apartments will shock many because they are much higher than the 2 per hundred units that a certain attorney claims. I believe you will find the number of students coming from apartments and condos rivals that of single family homes.

I would suggest to those that want to extend the current moratorium or make it even more restrictive, time is running out. I would call your council members and request that they either extend the moratorium or make the current one even stricter and to include the condos this time.
I agree

The apts & condos are going to bring in more students than anticipated & we are crazy if we believe the developers and & their attorneys who say otherwise. People move here because we are a family oriented community with good schools. Good schools and the taxes that go with them will not be conducive to empty nesters and singles flocking to our fair city. 2-3 BR apts & condos will be filled with families & children. All concerned citizens should attend council & twnship meetings to let elected officials know that we are serious about managing the growth in our community. Get informed & get involved.

Students per Acre

A better way to look at the children from Apartments and Condo's is students per acre.

While we may only get .2 - .3 kids per unit - when there are 12 units on an acre developers aren't doing anyone any favors.

Except the developer - but we knew that.....
