You should direct that to Parker
''Stop living in the past'', etc should be directed toward Doug Parker. He is the one living in the past. His Old Boy Network has collapsed, and he is a remnant of the past political life of the city. There is a new wave of involved citizenry who are not content to sit back while their concerns are not addressed. City officials found that out last November, except, apparently, for Mr. Parker, judging by his most recent statements.

a renter???
First of all, Doug Parker has lived in the area for about 10 years? I think. I've had contact with him nearly from the time I moved here almost 11 years ago. I believe initially, he was co-owner of a business in the old village (living there also) and has since always lived in the old village. Yes, he's a renter, but-- I hardly think owning a home is criterion to be on council. I don't think I have ever agreed with any of his politics, but do not see owning property here as a valid criterion for holding office. As for the tax issue, like all renters, he would not be directly paying property taxes, His landlord would be. I would presume that like the landlords I had when I rented, the rent increased as the property taxes did. So, indirectly he is paying the same taxes as you or I. Like him and his politics or not, I have seen him active in many areas of the city and in the village prior to it becoming a city. He has always lived in the old village and been actively involved. I think he'd earned the ''right'' to be on council if he's been voted to the slot. I just don't agree with his ideas of what Pickerington should be--- Doesn't mean he hasn't a right to be there since he's a ''renter''

Yeah, but......
Home ownership shouldn't be a requirement for being on council, but it sure gives the impression of permanency to the other residents in the city. When the residents were up in arms the past years over the actions of those on council and their regard to the building boom in the city, it sure didn't look good to me that he wasn't a home owner. And then he goes out of his way to point out the real estate tax records of someone voicing their opinion and bringing it up at a city council meeting.
Do as I say, not as I do??
I would be willing to bet that once his term is up and he is no longer on council, his apartment will be empty and he'll be living outside the city.

Does he live in the City?
I think the whole concern of this discussion is does Doug live in the City he was elected to serve in? Clearly he is the front man for local developers and they would gladly pick up the tab for his rent just to give him a Pickerington City address.
The second issue is his ability to relate to the problems of this city and its residents. If he has no children and doesn't own a home does it really resonant with him when the citizens complain about growth? Neither of these issues affect his pocketbook. So he doesn't feel like others should worry about his decisions. So can he relate?
Does he know the concerns parents have of over crowded schools? Does he know about getting your child a good education?
Just by his comments he is self centered and can't relate to the citizens of Pickerington. That alone makes him a poor council person.
