meeting agenda/new manager?

Big Spenders

As we head into a new year our citizens have spoken yet many that were voted out of office still don't get it.

Joyce stated in the paper that her two accomplishments were the downtown projects of new sidewalks and narrow streets and the widening of state route 256.

She didn't mention the over crowded schools, the over crowed roads nor the small commercial tax base that now exists.

For those that don't know she has diverted millions of dollars from future school income with TIFs into building roads and infrastructure that currently is doing no one any good because it only benefited a couple of local developers. Now these useless project's debt payments are coming out of the Pickerington General Fund and we are getting nothing in return much like her projects of millions for the downtown re-work that has cost millions and only benefited those small numbers of people that owned businesses downtown and the owners live in the township.

I hope the newly elected council can see a new future coming. I want to say to every citizen that has attended Pickerington City Council meetings over the last few years and that council has refused to listen, your work so not done. You must continue to show interest in what your government is doing. You must continue to hold their feet to the fire and question their decisions. Liberty and freedom need constant attention. Look away and you get what we got here the last 10 years. Those people that have done this to you are there waiting to take over again. Please don't let them.

Good Points

You bring up some good points. I hope the new city council performs a review of the TIFs and makes public the findings. I think even the public will be surprised at the ineptitude of the outgoing City Manager and the (for now) Development Director. What does she do? What development has she brought to Pickerington, besides retail and restaurants? With her supposed credentials, it seems as though she should have been able to do more. I got the following from the City of Pickerington's website about her:

''Susan Crotty was hired July 28, 1999 to fill the newly created position of Development Director for the City of Pickerington. Her role in this position is to encourage industrial development and jobs creation for the City, as well as to facilitate the commercial development occurring in the area and to promote and market the City. Ms. Crotty has a background in planning and zoning administration and economic development, and industrial park development, industrial and commercial attraction, retention and marketing. She also served as President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Big Walnut Area Community Improvement Corporation, which facilitated land acquisition and development of a 330-acre industrial park in the Rickenbacker area. She is also experienced in facilitating business association organizations and implementing a marketing strategy for industrial and brownfield sites. Ms. Crotty is currently serving as the Vice-President of the Mid-Ohio Development Exchange (MODE), a regional development organization that promotes Central Ohio and provides a network and educational opportunities for development professionals in a thirteen-county region. She has been a member since 1996 and served as a board member in 1998 and 2000-2001. Ms. Crotty was appointed to the Fairfield County Visitors and Convention Bureau, serving as a board member in 2000 and as President in 2001. She is a member of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the Ohio Development Association (ODA), the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC), Downtown Ohio, Inc., and is a board member of the Fairfield County Agency Transportation System (FairCATS). She completed the ODA economic development course in 1996. Ms. Crotty received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the Ohio State University in 1987.''
