I guess you just answered my next question and I am concerned our leaders in the community have missed something here. I have not put a lot of thought into this interchange idea because I thought we were talking about 15 years out. I know there are others in the Community jumping on the band wagon for an interchange at Allen Road. I say maybe we should re-think what we are doing and try to get a very long term solution.

My approach to this issue would have been at ODOT and their obligation to provide a limited access highway to Southeastern Ohio. To provide that highway, it can not come at the expense of the Pickerington, Violet Township, or Fairfield County. Clearly your proposal of a split Diamond interchange solves many of the problems I have had with the project. Since ODOT is required to provide certain amounts infrastructure to the local area without impacting the residents or the county and its governments then I think our approach should be to request that ODOT provide the road with little or no negative impact to the local area residents or governments.

First we should approach ODOT with the idea that they need a limited access highway through this area to help with current traffic problems and future traffic concerns. If they build an interchange over Pickerington Road they still neglect access to the 20 or so homes located between Allen Road and Pickerington Road which they are obligated to provide access to a public road. Since these homes are almost centered between the two above roads, they must provide service roads from either Pickerington Road or Allen Road. The State could also buy these properties but would that be a waste of the public?’s tax money to have 20 homes sites situated on a US highway sit idle with no access? They would render these properties useless if that don?’t provide an alternate access to these properties.

One argument that I have used with state representatives is ODOT spent a lot of money providing roads from Southeast Ohio to jobs in Columbus yet they drive by all of the potential economic development properties in between. Would it not extend the life of US 33 to provide an opportunity to develop Allen Road with commercial and all they must do is provide a bridge over Allen Road to provide access to both sides of US 33 and provide access down into Northern Bloom Township, which is also growing. Clearly the local governments would need to provide access from the north (widening Allen Road) to these developments.

I think those in this community need to re-think Allen Road only campaign. Let?’s all attend the ODOT meeting June 26th. If we have the opportunity to get more then we owe it to our community to get more.
