Somebody please help me understand Tricia Sanders. She?’s clearly in way over her head but the mailer she sent out is beyond ridiculous. Jeff, if you?’re writing this stuff you need to do a little more homework. Tricia claims to want to create more and better parks (and a rec center if want she is saying during her door to door is true) that everyone will back financially. Tricia, please tell us how in the world you?’re planning on pulling this off?
First off, they city is already seeing their tax dollars go towards parks that the township folks get to use for free. Are you really thinking that as a city resident I?’m going to be willing to pony up even more cash for parks when I?’ve been paying for them all along? Hey Tricia, I want my taxes to go down, not up.
Second, why in the world would people in the township pay for something that they get to use for free now? That makes no sense what so ever. Hey Tricia, the township residents have been living high on the hog over the city residents for years, they don?’t want you rocking that boat.
Jeff, Tricia, or who ever is behind this tripe, you need to at least make an effort to say something intelligent during this campaign. This parks nonsense is beyond belief.

New Parks??
10-9-2007
They can't even maintain the parks they have now. I see Sycamore Park everyday and they have removed 4 playgrounds and/or sets of swings because they haven't been able to meet the upkeep with them. The ''gravel'' path from the parking lot to the tennis courts is only reminder that a wide, maintained gravel path once existed. The ''shelter house'' next to the empty plot of fenced in grass that used to be horse shoe pits, is a shelter house in name only. The steps leading from the upper parking lot to the softball ball diamonds are a safety hazard at best.
Much of the perimeter of the pond has been cleared of all vegitation because they can't keep up with it and over runs with poison ivy. They clear it, drop in rocks to ''prevent'' errosion, but the rock slide into the pond and the banks errode none the less. Let alone are you going to let a child fish from the bank...errr....pile of unsteady rocks??
Memo to new park, community swimming pool and rec center people: Do you even go to the parks we have now? We go multiple times every week and the upkeep is embarrassing. If you disagree I will post dated photos to the web every month from now until you believe. Better yet go see it for yourself. Walk through the entire park. Actually put down your newspaper or Motorola Q during soccer practice, get out of the minivan and walk through the park. Don't say that doesn't apply to most of the parents down there. I see it everyday, probably not you, but most of 'em down there.
Oh yeah, those USGA approved putting greens for ''locals to practice their short game,'' check them out. Nice roots growing beneath the surface. I get more more practice for mini-golf at Magic Mountain than I do for a round at Turnberry. Might as well drop a windmill and big clown mouth on each green at this point.
I find an algae infested community pool pretty appealing, so go for it. Actually a new pool or rec center would get more attention than our existing facilities. Don't say it ain't true...look at our high schools.

you got that right
I agree with your opinion about the parks around our city hall. Of course around the pond, were the movies are watched is not near their $300,000 homes so they don't care, it's not in their back yard. The parks they are refering to, does not apply to the inner city, when they say Violet/Pickerington parks plan. I walk those parks almost everyday, not clean, pond not taken care of in years, and most importantly The red mustang with the plate Stang1 is the one who left marks in the middle of the park, and got stuck in the next to the Tennis courts. Did he get reported? Yes! did they make him repair it? NO! The Parks and Recreation has been told many times of the condition of our parks, but nothing has happened. Yes they get your money, but fixing it is not part of Saunders plan.

Double your taxes
Guys
Here is plan that Sanders wants to put forward. This is being pushed by the Township through Jeff Fix her mentor.
Currently if you look at the city budget the city has $659,000 budgeted out of the general fund for the parks and recreation department. This doesn't include the impact fees being collected on new builds.
The city no matter how poorly they keep their parks up they still own over 150 acres of park land and that is 150 acre more than the township owns. They also own the Carnegie Library where they have classes.
If you look on the auditors web site you will find that the city's assessed value total is around $378,000,000. That means if we wanted to raise the $659,000 currently budgeted from the general fund we would have to taxes ourselves 2 mills to maintain the status quo. If you wanted an $18 Million rec center it would cost us all around 5 or 6 mills. The township assessed value is around $445,000,000. In other words they could raise $445,000 per year with one mill of property taxes.
What the township plan is to get a parks levy passed and then rent those 157 acres of city parks back from the city for this parks board. Remember these boards must renew their levies every five years.
Now if you are a township resident why do you pay more taxes to rent a park that you already can use for free?
If you are a city resident why would you raise your taxes to rent back parks you already own?
Jeff Fix says and it is in Sanders literature that we will increase the commercial revenues down along US 33 to pay for these new parks ideas. WRONG. Once we form a parks board it must stand on its own two feet and be supported by the property taxes. This is similar to a school board and they can only impose property tax. We can't give it money from the City's general funds. In addition the impact fees would no longer be allowed to be used or collected for parks projects.
