Fraud Alert From Denver DA

Possible identity theft problem from petitioners

Special Fraud Alert from the Denver DA

July 25, 2008

You have probably noticed a sharp increase in the number of people collecting signatures on election petitions recently. August 4 is the deadline when all election petitions must be turned into the Colorado Secretary of State’s office, so petition signature gatherers are out in full force. You will see them at grocery stores, on city buses, at street corners and even knocking on your door. While most of these are legitimate, there is also an opportunity for fraud and ID Theft. Because of the timeliness of the issue, we felt it was important enough to merit a special fraud alert.
