Jan 06, 2009

Overland Neighborhood Association (ONA)
Minutes of 10/25/08 Meeting

Call to Order (CTO) by President Catherine Sandy at John Collins Church, 2320 S. Bannock.

Present: Sgt. Joe Rodarte, Patrick Bramley, James Sample, Ray Ehrenstein, Jan Marie Belle, Jennifer Tomey, Peggy Hildmann, Steve Spillmann, Hunter Helmstaedter, Barb Poole, Ronnie Crawford, Kathy Jackson, Valerie Kerns, Arlene Lipman, Julie Baibi, Ellie Roos, Jennifer Redes, Michelle Roof, Charley Samson, Catherine Sandy.

Minutes of our last meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer Michelle Roof's report of a current balance of $1307.31 was approved.

Councilman Nevitt's office reports that Aqua Golf's official grand opening will be in the spring, though it's open now.

On 11/13 at 6:00pm the TOD (Transit Oriented Development) Focus Group will meet here.

Sgt. Joe (?“Joey?”) Rodarte from District 4 reported that ?“arrests are imminent?” in the West Washington park burglaries. The perpetrators were entering through roof-top A.C. vents. A scorned girl friend turned in one of the thieves in Adams County. Rodarte also said that robberies are up since the economy went sour: 79 in Denver, ?¾ of whom were apprehended. A ?“senior crime analyst,?” whose brief is to coordinate different cases, started work on Monday.

Jan Belle, president of the Ruby Hill Neighborhood Association, said the effort to bury the transmission lines through Ruby Hill Park continues. Also, someone stole the copper ground wire from the radio tower atop Ruby Hill. SWIC (South Western ? Council) is coordinating HUD-certified housing counselors at no charge.

Stephen Hill, president of the Westwood Neighborhood Association (Mississippi to Jewell, Federal to Sheridan), said most of his area except for Federal and Sheridan is zoned R-1. He noted that prostitution in rented private homes has been a problem.

The passing of Overland Folk Hero Deb Sanchez on October 5 was noted. Her letter to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in 1987 (and the patronizing response) led to the successful struggle to reverse an EPA ROD (record of decision) and to remove radioactive and heavy metal-laden dirt from the Shattuck Superfund site.

With Catherine's clarion ?“let's go home,?” the meeting was adjourned at 8:00pm.
