Sep 10, 2008

Overland Neighborhood Association (ONA)
Minutes of 7/24/08 Meeting

Call to Order (CTO) by President Catherine Sandy at 6:40pm at John Collins Church, 2320 S. Bannock.

Present: James Sample, Ray Ehrenstein, Todd Liari, Michelle Uthof-Campbell, Christina Migda, Jamie Jurkoshek, Kathy Jackson, Jack Unruh, Dean Christopherson, Michelle Roof, Belin Fieldson, Marily Lager, Michael Laughton, Vanessa Laskarski, Maria Martin, Jennifer Redes, Charley Samson, Catherine Sandy.

Due to possible continued impeachable offenses by the Secretary, no minutes were read.

Treasurer Michelle Roof's report of a current balance of $1297.31 was approved.

District 4 Community Resource Officer Dean Christoferson regaled us with mostly positive crime statistics. Most categories in Overland are down, with the exception of criminal mischief, which includes graffiti. This will soon become a separate category. He said most burglaries occur east of Broadway. Christina and Michelle identified two meth houses. Jennifer Redes, from Councilman Nevitt's office, said two arrests have been made so far. District 4 Commanders meetings are Wednesdays at 10:00am every other week. For the glossary: SCAT = Street Crime Attack Teams. Christoferson suggested wiring motion detector sensors away from doors and in tandem with an interior light (or timer). He also advised creative placement of valuables (not in the bedroom). A freezer withstands fire damage. Jack mentioned that progress on the ONA Neighborhood Watch is stalled.

The Ruby Hill Advisory Group, whose members include Catherine, Jim and Ray, will meet on August 6 at 6:00pm at Garden Park Church gym, 1755 S. Zuni. A TOD Focus Group meeting is set for late August, with a public meeting early in September. Jack mentioned a proposal, probably favored by Shattuck site owner John Cook, for a pedestrian bridge at Jewell, not Iliff.

Jennifer Redes noted a P.A.L. Meeting on July 31 at 6:00pm at St. Rose of Lima Church, Navajo & Alameda. Also, the Democratic National Committee is holding a community forum on the impact of the convention on neighborhoods on August 26, from 9:00am ??“ 2:00pm, at the Curious Theatre. She said Councilman Nevitt has met with Denver Traffic about our concerns about Bannock.

Catherine said plans are afoot to widen Evans by 200 feet by 2011.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:52pm.
