Overland Park

Minutes of April 26, 2007 Meeting

Apr 28, 2007

Overland Neighborhood Association (ONA)
Minutes of 4/26/07 Meeting

Call to Order (CTO) by President Catherine Sandy at 6:38pm at John Collins Church, 2320 S. Bannock.

Present: See sign-up sheet.

Reading of the minutes of last month?’s meeting was again waived, due to the document?’s presence in another geographical location.

Treasurer Lois Strohmeyer?’s report showing a balance of $1,236.21 was approved.

President Sandy thought ONA should enter a Dreyer?’s Ice Cream contest, in which the winner receives enough ice cream for up to 100 people. We selected Saturday, August 4 as the date for our ice cream social. Sandy will write the contest essay, noting that if we don?’t win we?’ll do it anyway.

Sandy also produced a letter from Community Planning and Development, which announced a proposed crematorium at 1849 S. Acoma. This news provoked a wave of bad jokes. C.J. observed that they would be ?“quiet neighbors.?” Ronnie opined that a neighborhood discount might be offered for our ?“future development.?” And so it goes.

Vice President Jennifer Pollock said 12 people have signed up for the ONA Garage Sale. Signs were discussed, as well as possible ads in the Denver Post and Washington Park Profile and a notice on Craig?’s List.

Kevin Dickson spoke of zoning options for S. Delaware, across from the Light Rail station. Janelle (who made her debut after 7 year?’s residence) and others on the west side of the 2100 block of S. Cherokee have received letters offering ?“market value?” for their properties, which would be used for garages for businesses on S. Delaware. She, and others, were not amused.

Lilly circulated pictures of the graffiti on the Evans viaduct, which might be state property. Sandy noted the availability of ?“dumpster beige?” paint.

Ray Ehrenstein thought ONA members should join the fight against the proposed Ruby Hill Xcel towers, as we favor burying the cables. He said Ruby Hill and Athmar neighborhoods are getting mobilized. Letters to the Mayor and Planning Board opposing the variance would be welcome. A meeting of the Planning Board is scheduled for May 2 at 3:00pm.

Bridge Czar Matt Riley also called for letters to the bike people and mayor in support of the Pedestrian Bridge. RDT should contribute, as it would feed their new station at Bates.

Sandy welcomed street-by-street concerns: on Fox, Bannock, Cherokee, Harvard, Vassar and Yale.

Kevin mentioned Dave the lawn mower charges $10. Catherine proposed Deb Sanchez as the first recipient of the ONA Garden Help Initiative.

The meeting was adjourned in possible record time (47 minutes) at 7:25p.m.
