CHRISTMAS AT THE FIREHOUSE TO BE HELD
Keith and Gayla Sossamon during CATF (File Photo)
For the past several years, CFAAA has taken breakfast to each fire station, plus the 911 center on Christmas day.
This year will be no different. Oklahoma City has 36 stations, plus the 911 center and needs volunteers to take the food. Here are the procedures.
Wal-Mart and GFF supermarkets normally donate gift certificates to offset part of the cost, which is paid by the person who chooses the station.
The person who selects the station then purchases the ingrediants and delivers them on Christmas day. This year is the red shift.
To choose a station, contact Cheryl Klein.

RIDE-A-LONG
If you haven’t done any ride-a -long’s lately, we urge you to take advantage of it.
We are entitled to three per year, and it is a great way to enjoy the company of firefighters and to see firsthand what they do.
The following stations are among the busiest and are recommended for ride alongs: 12, 14, 15, 19, 21, 24, 25, and 31.
To schedule a ride-along, please contact Tess Hague at 297-3628 Monday – Thursday between the hours if 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
If you have done a ride-along, we would like to hear about it, especially if there was an exciting ride. Email Rob Anderson with details. If there was more than one, I will publish the most exciting.
Be sure to add the station number, shift color (if you know it), and some of the names of firefighters.

My Ride-A-Long
By: Keith Sossamon
On Saturday, December 5th, I did a ride-a-long with fire station #24, one of the busiest OKC stations. As I arrived at the fire station, they received a medical call. I wasn’t quick enough to get inside the station, so I missed that run. Once they returned to the station, I was warmly welcomed by Major Brian Arnold and the firefighters. Just a few minutes after arrival, we received a call to a cut gas main. We stood by for about 45 minutes, while we waited on ONG to arrive on the scene. Once they got the gas shut down, we went available and were dispatched to an accident with injury about three blocks north of where we were.
For the next several hours, we made calls to an automatic alarm, another injury accident and two more medical rides. During my time at the station, we responded to a total of six calls, which I would consider a good ride-a-long.
The evening meal was outstanding…..Chicken Alfredo, garlic bread and a baked chocolate cake. I want to personally thank Major Arnold and the firefighters from station #24 for their professionalism, courteousness and hospitality, while I was at the station.
