JULY CFAAA MEETING TO BE HELD

Nine members, plus visitors Hailey Jones, Christi Bristow, Scott Langston and Lindsay Goldman, were in attendance at the June CFAAA meeting, held June 18, at station 26.
Station 26 is the newest OCFD station, having been dedicated on Friday, June 13, 2014.
The station is the first of three totally new stations to be built as a result of the last bond issue for
public safety and houses an engine and brush pumper.
The first in district stretches to the Mustang city limits to the west, I-44 to the east, south to Will Rogers and north to the Moore City limits and reduces the response time on rides in the southwestern most section of Oklahoma City.
Numerous new housing additions, acreages and industrial businesses are in the district, but mostly undeveloped land, or farm land. Notable areas served are parts of Will Rogers, Mike Monroney FAA Center and the Federal Transfer Center, which is classified as a federal prison.
The designation of station 26 is not new, however, it had been retired when the Will Rogers and Wiley Post airport stations were changed to private contract. Station 26 was previously the station at Wiley Post.
The next meeting will be held at station 18, on July 16.
Station 18 is located at 4016 N Prospect, between NE 36 and NE 50. Best way is to take either NE 36, or NE 50, to Prospect, which are both controlled intersections. Turn and the station is about half way between.
CFAAA thanks the crew of station 26, Chris Birdsong, Chris Thompson, CJ Seitz, TJ Aragon, Rick Scoggins and District Chief Chris Black.
The meeting will start at 6:30 PM. Bring enough food for ten firefighters and yourself.
Guests are always welcome.

OCFD TO BE AMONG FIRST TO USE NEW CPR DEVICE
ResQCPR System to be used by OCFD for full arrest
Oklahoma City area First Responders will be among the first in the nation to use a new CPR
device, called the ResQCPR (Rescue CPR) System. In a pivotal clinical trial, use of the ResQCPR System increased one-year survival by 49% compared to patients receiving conventional CPR.According to the Food and Drug Administration, ResQCPR is the only device that can say it increases the chances of survival after sudden cardiac arrest.
More than 4,000 EMS professionals in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas will receive training on the devices and will soon be using the ResQCPR System in the field. The device creates suction on the chest that literally pulls blood back to the heart. Conventional CPR increases blood flow by 30 percent. ResQCPR doubles the blood flow rate to 60 percent.
Representatives from area Fire Departments and EMSA received train-the-trainer classes on the ResQCPR System in June. The representatives will go back to their agencies and provide the necessary training to their Departments. The goal is begin system wide usage of the device in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metro areas by October 1st of this year.

FIRE SERVICE HISTORY: NUMBERS
1910 fire apparatus from the collection of OCFD located in 6’s museum (Photo By: Rob Anderson)
Today, fire stations and apparatus are most often numbered as they are put into service.
When a department builds their sixth station and puts their sixth engine into service, it is naturally named "Engine 6." But it wasn't always that way. In fact, the larger and older departments still may not number their stations.
Years ago fire apparatus was so expensive and so prized that they were christened or named like boats.
The Dallas Fire Department still has a vintage steam pump in its museum called "Old Tige". (One of the few in the country to survive the "scrap campaigns" of WW II.) This was named after the mayor of Dallas, (W. L. Cabell) in 1884.

RIDE-A-LONGS
If you haven’t done any ride-a-longs lately, we urge you do take advantage of it.
We are entitled to three per year and it is a great way to enjoy the company of firefighters and to see firsthand what they do.
The following stations are among the busiest and are recommended for ride-a-longs: 12, 14, 15, 19, 21, 24, 25 and 31.
RIDE-A-LONG
Tess Hague
Have you done a ride-a-long with the Fire Department? We would like to hear about it, especially if there was an exciting ride. Email Rob Anderson with details. If there was more than one, I will publish the most exciting.
Be sure to add the station number, shift color (if you know it), and some of the names of firefighters.
To schedule a ride-a-long, contact Tess Hague at 297-3314, Monday – Thursday 8:00 AM till 2:00 PM and she will get you scheduled.
