MAY CFAAA MEETING SCHEDULED

first_pic.jpgFAAA members enjoy a meal during April meeting  (Photo By: Rob Anderson)

Six members were in attendance during the April CFAAA meeting, held April 16, at station 13.

Station 13 was built in part as a result of the construction of the General Motors assembly plant, in 1977. The station was placed as close to GM as possible to lessen the response time when a ride was necessary.

When built, the station was in a very rural area, however, the area has grown to be very urban.

The engine only station has a very broad area and includes the area that is adjacent to Tinker, with Del City limits to the north, Bryant to the west, south to Indian Hills Rd and Post Rd to the east.

The area serves a variety of demographics, plus many industrial businesses and Boeing.

We thank Lt. Brian Cosner, Lt, Chris Burgess, Trace Brown, Josh Wayland and Cpl. Kevin Wallace, for their hospitality.

The next CFAAA meeting will be May 21 at station 32.  Station 32 is located in Surrey Hills, just south of Northwest Expressway, on Mustang Road. Time is 6:30. Please bring enough food for yourself and eight firefighters. Plus, guests are always welcome.

KANSAS HIGH LEVEL FACILITY USED BY OCFD

second_pic.jpg

Map of Crisis City, located in Salina, Kansas

Crisis City is a multi-use, fully functional training complex for local, state and federal responders, emergency management professionals, public and private industry safety professionals and military operations in support of civil authorities.

Crisis City was originally opened to train Kansas first responders in various areas, but is also open to varied agencies from other states. Among those first responders is OCFD Lt. Mark Edwards.

At this point, the facility has seven venues plus a headquarters building for classroom training. A rail venue has train cars which can be set to various scenarios, an urban village, which is a mockup of a town for disaster rescue, a farm with barn and other features, a tower which can train for numerous tower rescues, collapsed structure, an aircraft venue for simulated crash rescue, and pipeline area, which includes an overturned truck, drill head, small structure, vehicle accident scene and trench. The facility, which sits on several acres, can be expanded.

The facility opened in October 2009 and is operated by the Kansas office of Emergency Management.
