November Meeting
"Colonial Life in Ben's Time" will be the subject of Dave Downs unique perspective on history on Monday, November 16 at 7:30 PM. at the Little Red Schoolhouse. John Howland, best remembered for having fallen off the Mayflower during a mighty storm, fortunately survived because his descendants include Richard Nixon, George Bush and...our speaker, Dave Downs.
Holiday Fair
Is it possible that our Holiday Fair and Open House are this month? Yes, it is. Please save Sunday afternoon, November 22 for this wonderful, annual event.
Also, please start planning your contribution to the following fair tables: Christmas, Baked Goods, Knitted Goods, Jewelry, Raffles. Our table chair, Sandi Burns, is at 508-695-7160. Our raffle chair, Heather DeMelia, is at 508-643-2674. Please call with your contributions. The schoolhouse will be open on Saturday, November 21 for your donations.
Open House
Sunday, November 22, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Bring the family, bring the neighborhood, come just yourself. This is a wonderful way to "kick off" the holiday season. It's quite special to walk in the front door of the Garrison House and smell the roasting turkey.
Volunteers Needed
This time it is not Uncle Sam who wants you...it is our chairladies of the holiday fair. Sandi Burns needs your work power, either on Saturday, November 21 to set up for the fair or Sunday, November 22 to help staff the fair. Anything from a few hours to more is appreciated.
Heather DeMelia needs items for our raffle table. Might there be gift certificates or items for the table out there?
The Historical Society needs a few good people to help with the Second Chance Sale to be held on Saturday, November 28 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Furnace Fund
It was mentioned in the September Smoke Signals about the situation with our two boilers, both of which needed to be replaced. The cost to the Society for both boilers will be $3,500.00. The fund raising has started. Since that last correspondence, $1,430.13 has been received. A donation jar at the yard sale yielded the odd dollars and cents. Thank you to all who have contributed and to all who have plans to contribute. Please mail your donations to Jim Hale, 181 Fales Road, North Attleboro and mark them "Furnace Fund."
Yard Sale
October 17 was not a fine Saturday for a yard sale but weather never stops hearty New Englanders. Thanks to all who worked, set up and cleaned up.
Welcome
To new member Barbara Strickland.
President's Message
Happy November,
This Thanksgiving will be unique to the Hales. We will be in Houston, passing around our first grandchild, We, indeed, have great cause to express thanks. Of course, she is beautiful.
I promise that sometime over those days, I will give a quiet thanks for all of you. Your contributions to our furnace crisis were beyond my expectations. Our events in both buildings are now held in warmth and the hot water is once again flowing. I thank all who have made a contribution and all who plan to do so.
I also give thanks for those who give great efforts to make this Holiday Fair and Open House such a wonderful event. A solicitation was made above for your help. I know you will respond. But I also know that those responsible for organizing and preparing both our buildings for this day will once again achieve success. From far away, I will be thinking of all of you on November 22. Thank you for all your efforts.
Jim
