Woodcock Hatch Maxcy House

In 1961, William and Dorothy Rice purchased the house affectionately known as the "Aunt Cynthia Hatch house" on North Washington Street. The Rices lovingly restored the house and through their restoration and research came to believe it to be the original home built by John Woodcock in 1669. Since the restoration of the home by the Rices, the home has been called the John Woodcock Garrison House.

The Rices sold the Garrison House to the Society in the spring of 1964. The Society also acquired the house next door, which was used for storage of artifacts transferred from the Victorian on South Washington St., which was then sold. The Rices became active members of the Society and were curators for many years.

The house is listed on the National Historic Register as the Woodcock Hatch Maxcy House; the house having been owned by John Woodcock, Israel Hatch and his descendants and Alexander Maxcy and his descendants.
