Dear friends,

Decided to practice some tennis with my son.  Slater Park courts are not ready. Therefore, I tried the two new courts at Jenks Junior High on Division Street. Noticed something very curious...the entire skate board park and basketball courts were open. However,  the two brand new tennis courts had padlocks on two of their entrances. Why are the tennis courts closed and the rest of the playground open?

Settled upon the Oak Hill courts.

Good question...probably the school dept has a match set?

Dear Arthur,

My son and I considered the possibility to scale the 20 foot fence at Jenks.  Could see the Times headlines now, "Pawtucket Man Dies in Quest for Game" or better yet, "Another Man Cannot Measure Distance".

By the way, regarding other note.  I wonder if leaking medicines cause Pawtucket and Ocean State's high cancer rates?

The tennis courts are the School Department’s domain. You would have to query that question to them.

Perhaps there is some logic to their closed nature? Anyone hazard a guess?

We do have higher cancer rates from some textile and jewelry mfg in the past, but doubt if the medicines leaking have hit our pure Pawtucket and Providence water supplies...but who knows if there might be more surprise findings to come.
