Minutes from September 25, 2019

At 7:00 pm the meeting was called to order.  Ten people were in attendance.  Each one signed the sign-in sheet that is attached to the Secretary’s copy of the minutes.  

 Delaware State Senator, Jack Walsh, was in attendance.  Senator Walsh provided information for:

 -Current DelDot projects as well as upcoming projects.  

-There will be new voting machines coming to Delaware.  Demonstrations of the new machines will be held at the Newark Senior Center.  Please see Sen. Walsh’s Facebook page for more details.  

-On November 5th, there will be a Veterans career fair from 10am to 3pm at UD Star Campus.

-The Polly Drummond Yard Waste site will remain open for two more years. 

 County Councilman, Timothy Sheldon, was also in attendance.  Topics addressed include:

-Delaware 2-1-1.  This service provides one central resource for access to the health and human service organizations that offer the support to make a difference.

-Code violations and police reports.  Regarding police reports, if you need to report a problem or concern, it is your responsibility to contact New Castle County Police. As only witnesses can make these reports.  

-The opening of a new recycling center on Executive Drive in the Pencader Industrial Park.

-Seniors age 65 and older may be eligible for a Property Tax Reduction.  To obtain an application and review the program details, please visit www.nccde.org/Exemptions

In an update from prior meetings, the water connection for the front entrance will be shut off by the City of Newark, as requested.

Mary Beth Coté, the Treasurer, read the Treasury Report covering the 2019 budget.  These reports can be seen at any regular meeting.  The proposed budget for 2020 was also discussed.  There were no additional proposal received, as such, it was motioned and approved to keep the same grass mowing and snow removal services for the upcoming year.  Finally, a motion was made to approve the 2020 budget, which was seconded and approved.

 As per our new by-laws, the Vice-President and Treasurer positions were up for re-election.  There were no additional candidates for these positions. As such, Debbie and Mary Beth agreed to continue in their respective roles.  A motion was made, seconded, and approved by those in attendance.

 A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:05pm.

 Our next scheduled neighborhood meeting is Tuesday, February 11th at 7:00 pm, in the Shue-Medill choir room.  All residents are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting.
