Close off Southern Entrance!

Close the Southern Entrance

In another message a comment was made about using SPEED BUMPS. I don't think we even want to think about speed bumps. I have seen to many other areas that have speed bumps and yes, they may cut down on the number of people going through Airmont, but look at the number of cars in our own area that will be damaged by the speed bumps. What would be interesting is to find out how many other areas had speed bumps and took them out. Also, as far as people going through our community and not stopping at the stop signs, we need to look at our community members that don't stop at these signs. I know because I see them. As far as a traffic study goes, we did one about 3 years ago when we first started to talk about the problem in Airmont.
Closing The South Entrance

First of all, I would like to state that I'm not entirely opposed to closing the southern entrance to Airmont and I admit that I do use Airmont Drive as a cut through to Hyatt's Corner Road. I think it's important that information be gathered from ALL residents prior to a final decision. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to a computer.

If there is concern about kids hanging in the dead end that would result by closing the entrance, as a community let's do something to educate that families about the potential pit falls of hanging out. What a great place to have an annual ''Block Party''.

As far as skate boarding goes, I would rather have my child skate boarding on a dead end (provided he is not damaging someone's property) than skate boarding on an open street where the potential for injury to himself or occupants of a car could be much higher. Again, education is key here.

My other concern about the postings on this site is that they are being done anonymously. I think this is an incredible way to communcate, especially since I can't usually make the civic association meetings. As adults we should be able to respect each others opinions and dialogue about important issues without fear of using our names.

closing the south entrance

this needs more thought & discussion. What about the school bus routes; many of the buses use both entrances. What about police, fire and emergency calls; how will the closing affect their response rate? What is a child is hit by a car that didn't stop at a stop sign, and it takes emergency personnel 5-10 mnutes longer to reach the child?

In response to the ''anonymous issue'' we have had more negative occurances than positive since moving into Airmont. Teenagers have given my children & I inappropriate finger movements (I'm trying to keep it clean), flags have been stolen, telephone & cable wires have been disconnected, when my children have approached other children in friendship, the response is cursing and swearing. Cyndi is right- we shoud be able to voice our opinions and be treated with respect. But based on past experiences with some children and a few adults, I don't trust anyone.
Issues of Airmont

I hope that everyone realizes that NOTHING will be done to close the entrance unless we have a majority of residents in agreement. But dialogue has to start somewhere to go forward to find out if it's even possible. The issues of closing it and what happens to the portion of the closed end is something also which would be dictated I believe by DelDot..so DON'T PANIC. I believe the bus issue would be the same for us with one entrance as Mt. Hope, the rest should go around (currently we have a few that just cut through - no stopping) - I don't believe it will happen overnight if at all but if it does our development would be basically the same as Mt. Hope- a one way in , one way out. Emergency issues would be handled the same as it is for Mt. Hope I suppose. As someone who had a fire last year - I agree that the emergency response has to be looked at. Our concern is over future development bringing more traffic and vandalism. We like our quiet safe streets and hope to keep it safe. I am more alarmed to hear about the negative reception you have received - I believe that most in this neighborhood are very friendly. Vandalism is just that - and a police issue - I have not heard of anyone's wires being cut - If so- please let the officers know....we can't be everywhere and contrary to what some may think we don't run around the neighborhood gossiping with one another. WE NEED TO KNOW WHEN BAD THINGS HAPPEN AND I AS A NEIGHBOR APOLOGIZE TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY FOR SUCH BAD BEHAVIOR. AS A PARENT I WOULD WANT YOU TO KNOCK ON MY DOOR AND MAKE ME AWARE IF MY CHILD WERE PARTICIPATING IN THIS. PLEASE DON'T JUDGE THE MAJORITY OF AIRMONT BY THE FEW - WE WELCOME YOU TO AIRMONT AND ENCOURAGE YOUR DIALOGUE. We encourage your participation in the Civic Association, hope to see you there.
