NEIGHBORHOOD HAPPENINGS

Several members of the block club attended a meeting at St. Rose of Lima held by the developer who wants to acquire the land along the old railroad tracks. Natale Builders is proposing to acquire the land from the LaSalle station to Starin and to Kenmore to build senior apartments and housing. Their drawings show a road running through the area and connecting to all of the streets including Nicholson. The plan is for approximately 80 up-scale houses, some apartment complexes, and retail developments at Starin and at Tyler. The developer hasn?’t purchased the property yet but is very seriously considering it. We are opposed to any plan that will significantly add traffic to our street.

A group called the University Heights Collaborative and another called the Greenway Group have been trying to advance the idea of a bike path for the old railroad tracks area. They have worked with the UB School of Architecture to have the students design alternatives for the area. There will be a presentation May 2 @ 6:30 pm at 301 Crosby Hall, UB South Campus with the
students presenting three proposals. The Greenway Group has also requested that the city look into purchasing the land from the NFTA for a nominal amount and building the bike path before it is acquired by Natale. We will keep you informed.

The University Heights Collaborative is sponsoring a street sale for all of the streets in the neighborhood. Advertising is being paid by businesses on Main St. If we have at least 3 houses on our street willing to participate, we will be added to the advertising. Please contact Craig Koeppel @ 833-4848 if you are going to participate. Then just put your treasures out for sale on Saturday, May 13th. The collaborative is also working with UB on having a free concert with the Philharmonic on the lawn of the UB South Campus.

For more information regarding these and other events go to the website www.myheights.org.

The block club will be scheduling another night out in the next few weeks where everyone is invited to a restaurant for an evening of food and conversation. Keep tuned.
