CANTON ?— During the course of a month-long investigation into illegal drug activity at a Canton man?’s apartment, police noticed that customers not only waited in line for their deliveries, some even waited outside for the crack cocaine to finish cooking.

A ?“customer?” who had just purchased illegal drugs was driving away when officers with the Canton Police Department?’s Gang Task Force, Vice/Criminal Intelligence Unit and SWAT team arrived to search the home about 4:45 p.m. Monday and arrest the cook, whom police identified as Daman M. Slocum, 29.

Armed with a search warrant for Apt. 22 at 1457 Rachel St. NW, the SWAT team forced its way inside where they found Slocum and his unidentified girlfriend watching TV, said Lt. James Cole.

They arrested Slocum on charges of marijuana trafficking, aggravated drug possession and two counts of cocaine possession, Stark County Jail records said. His girlfriend wasn?’t charged.

The officers seized more than 1.5 grams of crack cocaine that had been ?“packaged and ready for sale?” in Slocum?’s apartment, Cole said. They also seized an undisclosed amount of powdered cocaine, about 200 grams of marijuana ?“also packaged for sale,?” and an undisclosed amount of money believed to be the profits of illegal drug sales, he said.

Cole said the investigation into the sales had involved numerous undercover controlled purchases of crack cocaine from Slocum.

?“During the investigation, officers also observed people waiting outside the apartment for either the delivery or the suspect to finish cooking the crack cocaine,?” he said.

Cole said Slocum and the woman, who was not charged, had been living in the apartment for about four months.

He said the police department plan to petition for the couple?’s immediate eviction from the apartment as the result of illegal drug activity there.

Slocum remained in jail Tuesday, held in lieu of $50,000 bond, jail records said.
