Weatherproof Block Parties

Oct 31, 2001

The City of Des Moines Parks Department has teamed up with the Des Moines Neighbors Board in sponsoring several neighborhood ?“block parties?” in December. This is the first year for the special holiday season evenings that, it is anticipated, will become an annual tradition for various neighborhoods at the Botanical Center. The mutual goal of the Des Moines Neighbors Board and the City is to build camaraderie and fellowship among residents of Des Moines neighborhoods.

Des Moines?’ 50 neighborhood organizations have been offered the opportunity to host an evening holiday gathering for their residents at the Botanical Center Sunday-Friday evenings during the month of December. Individual neighborhood groups are being provided a hospitality room in which to serve refreshments as well as group admission rates for their attendees. They are also encouraged to schedule their own area school, church and arts groups to perform during the evening in the botanical dome to ?“customize?” the evening for their attendees. The evening entertainment will be enjoyed by both the neighborhood folks as well as the general public and party-goers who are attending private events held in reception rooms in the evenings during the Center?’s extended holiday hours. Rain or shine, the block parties will be held in the enchanted ambiance of a winter wonderland of the Botanical Center.
