Ugly plastic newspaper boxes

Posted in: Urban
I am here to defend and protect the rights of all Urban Residents by declaring war on the ugly red, yellow, blue, and green plastic news boxes that are ''illegally'' abandoned on the fair streets of Nashville. These unsightly monsters are ruining the beautiful, historic ambience of our downtown city streets...most of them are dirty or broken, not regularly serviced, and just plain annoying....

What would you say if they were to start to mysteriously disappear at night?

Let me hear your thoughts???

a plan

I agree they need to go, but we must have a plan. First, we need to consider which boxes we have a problem with. Are they just around Church St. Park, or do we have a beef with ones as far away as Broadway and Second Ave? Instead of cherry picking the ones we don't like, what if we write a letter to the publications requesting they remove all of them from downtown? This could establish that the URA is a classy, fair organization. We could give them the contact info of the metro person responsible for the nice, black multi-boxes like as the one on 5th and Church. This will at least give them a chance to claim the junky ones and get their pubs into the officially sanctioned boxes (and pay the fee to metro like the legit pubs in them). If, after a set date, they don't remove the offending boxes, we threaten to advertise the dirty little secret that the boxes, are in fact, abandoned property and should be treated like litter. Word of mouth and a few well-placed posters (on the boxes) may make the problem solve itself. What's more, it wouldn't take very long for some Church Street park regulars to help clear them out if someone parked a truck on Capitol Blvd and offered $3.00 for every box.

Plan Good, Masked Avenger Bad!!

I agree 100% with Ben (who I at first thought WAS the Masked Avenger) Since our area if influence encompasses all of the downtown area, I think the campaign should target all of the boxes in our area.

Let's discuss this in more detail at our next meeting, we can come up with a list of the offenders, then get contact info for each and start the letter writing portion of our campaign.

Good thoughts, Ben....
Aw Come On, Let's Stir Things Up

Plans? Letters? Metro contacts??? I say we wipe em all out and sort out the broken plastic pieces later....

What about a giant plastic box bonfire right in the middle of Bicentennial Park???

These boxes are really getting on my nerves...not sure how long I can wait!!!!
