Dam Cleanup

Need volunteers!

In the first North Lake HOA newsletter, I mentioned that the upper and lower lake dams are in need of cleanup before they collapse. The most cost-effective way of addressing this is to form a cleanup group to cut down the small trees and bushes that are interfering with the integrity of the dam. I have been approached by two residents stating that they would be willing to participate in the cleanup. One stated he could possibly supply a couple of chainsaws for the job.

Anyone else?

Unfortunately, while the vegetation to cut is not great in size, the amount is more than two people can handle. We will need folks to not only cut down the growth, but to carry it out and place it where the city can come and remove it. This will need to be a neighborhood effort and anyone who can is needed.

Phases and savings

Right now I would like to see us knock down the trees that need removing first. From there we can determine what else will need to be done. About 80% of the vegetation is under 2 inches in diameter so it should not be difficult to cut and remove. As I said previously, there is simply a lot of it.

Once the first phase is done, we will be able to see what is left. We know that the kudzu will need removing from the lower portion of the upper lake dam. A bush hog won't be able to get there. The best time to remove it will be in the winter when we won't have to fight with leaves.

I am estimating that by doing this work ourselves we should save approximately $2000-$3000. We may still have to have a professional come in, but it won't cost as much if we do this ourselves.
