North Creek Village

A New Look

Posted in: N Creek Village

Congratulations on inheriting the house you'll be moving to!  I wish you success in selling your house and hope you gain a profit from it.

With all this mess going on, it may just be a relief to leave it all behind.

Good luck to you!

Here's what Nick sent me:

Sarah,

The pool will open as soon as we can get all of our ducks in a row. We don't want to open the pool just to "open it" without first being insured, inspected and a security system to protect the residents in place.

Here's what I replied:

I understand all that, but that doesn't change the fact that I paid my dues.  I get that it needs to be insured, but what is holding up the inspection?  And honestly, I don't care about the security system. I am only going to live here a few months longer.  Am I paying my dues for others at a later date?  I don't want to involve my lawyer, but I will.  Did the bank put the money into the pool for it to sit, unused?

I know that you stepped into an ugly situation.  I suggest you do what you can to turn it around.  The resentment towards the HOA was lessened for a very short period, and now it is quickly growing again.  The fact that others didn't pay their dues is your problem, not mine.  The fact that I had to contact Trudy to get your contact info is pretty bad, too.  You ran for president, and your contact information should be easy to come by.  You signed up for this.

As long as I am paying my full dues, I expect to get the things I am paying for.  I will verify with my lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that's the way a contract works.  It doesn't take a legal genius to know that.  Do what you have to when dealing with everyone else, but as I said, that is not my problem.

Will keep you posted.

Sarah -

Thanks for letting everyone know what Nick said about the pool.

I can understand the need to get things in place such as insurance, inspection and (especially) a security system before it opens.  Maybe you don't care about the security system since you're planning to move, but for everyone else who plans to live here, the security system is one of the most important things we need to keep trespassers and vandals out of the pool and out of the clubhouse.

FYI, the pool renovation was completed ahead of schedule.  Had it been completed a little later, it may have allowed time to have a security system as well as insurance in place.

I know it's hard to see that nice, sparkling clean pool and not have access to it in this July heat, but sadly, it's attitudes like yours that keep a dark, pessimistic cloud over the progress that's being made.

You have to admit, things are in a lot better shape around here than they were a couple of months ago when we had no lights, no pool, poor lawn service and the common area overgrown in weeds and a continual demand for hoa dues.

Would you rather still have it that way?  I guess it doesn't matter to you, since you're moving anyway.

For my purposes, I want the money I give them to be put to a use for me.  Yes, I do.  My understanding from talking with the Board memebers I have spoken to is that the security system is going to be 7K, which won't be raised before I move.  So the pool will not be open this summer.  So, why should I be happy about that?  My money will benefit the residents after I move.  Great.  My lawn care isn't worth $144, and I think the bank is still footing the water bill.  So, my $144 is paying the management company.  Why shouldn't I have a problem with that?  I also have reason to believe that other than the security system, the rest of is explanation is false.  The inspection is done, and the board has voted on insurance already.  I don't like being lied to.
