Hey,  I am LaDonna Thiemann and I live in North Creek Village.  My husband is nominated for the board of the new HOA.  We are starting a neighborhood watch program.  The classes are July 25th.  We are making flyers this weekend to hand out to all families.  If we get at least 3 people they will give us the signs that show the little Borus the Burglar.  We are excited about this.  I hope this helps in any decision that you are making in moving into our little neighborhood.  If you would like to attend just let us know.  My husband and I are working with Ferrelview police department.  We are trying to have a work relationship with the Chief of Police of Ferrelview and the Kansas City Police.  My husband and I have had no problems, but with empty houses I guess that could happen,  I am sorry to say.  Write back here and maybe we can get some communication open to help satisfy your concerns.  Thanks and welcome to the neighborhood.

Sounds like a good idea as far as heading off problems, but I am wondering if Borus the Burglar signs would clue new people that there may be problems in the neighborhood and have an impact on property values.

Boris the Burglar is just one of the logo's Neighborhood Watch Programs use.  It does not mean we have a problem, it means we do not want a problem and we watch to make sure we don't.  It is us being proactive and taking charge of our community not letting others ruin our neighborhood.  Having a Neighborhood Watch Program also puts us in direct contact with the police if there is a problem.  This is a plus for our neighborhood.  I am sorry you are very worried about North Creek Village, because I am too.  But if all of us do our share,  I believe we will become a thriving, growing community.

You make an excellent point and I thank you for a different point of view.  I have since learned that even many upscale communities post neighborhood watch signs and for the most part, are regarded as a comforting message that residents are on the lookout for trouble, not proclaiming it.   I was under the impression that a neighborhood watch sign (especially one that suggested burglary) was a heads-up for a troubled neighborhood.  I have high hopes for our community, too, and trust that we can all pull together to make it a proactive, cohesive one.
