National Night Out 2003

Neighbors Brave 105 Degree Temperature to Celebrate

We were having our usual August heatwave on August 5, but that didn't stop over 100 neighbors from coming out to celebrate National Night Out!

Our celebration keeps getting better, year after year. This year, the Dallas Fire Department brought a fire truck and our neighborhood kids had a chance to tour the truck and try on the heavy boots and outfits that fire fighters wear every time they go on duty.

Attending for the first time was a representative from the City of Dallas recycling program. He brought blue bags for everyone, along with educational literature about the benefits of recycling.

We had McGruff the Crime Dog, mounted police officers and our city council representative, Dr. Elba Garcia. We had our annual pooch parade, a salsa contest, plenty of hot dogs and cold drinks.

Rotary Club Donates Back-To-School Supplies

The Rotary Club donated 12 huge backpacks full of school supplies for our neighborhood 1st-5th graders! There were notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, art supplies--enough to last the year!

Since we had more kids than backpacks, we gave raffle tickets to all the children who attended National Night Out, then drew numbers and gave 2 backpacks each for grades 1-4 and 4 backpacks for grade 5. Everybody was just thrilled with the backpacks, especially the parents who can save some money on school supplies this year, thanks to the generous donation of the Rotary Club.

We also had donations from Tom Thumb and La Calle Doce. Alegria dontated a Spiderman bounce house, which was very popular with the kids!

Petsmart Donates Prizes for Pooch Parade

Our annual Pooch Parade was the best ever, and we would like to thank Petsmart for the generous donations of gift certificates for our winners.
