National Night Out on Aug. 2 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Methodist Hospital will be cool inside
It?’s the first Tuesday in August and that means North Cliff residents will join forces with communities across the country to ?“give criminals the boot?” during National Night Out.
Each year for the past 18 years, North Cliff has participated in this national crime watch event. While the hot dogs were grilling, however, most of us were being fried from the heat. After all, August is Texas?’ hottest month.
This year, we?’ll be playing it cool when we join other north Oak Cliff neighborhoods at Methodist Hospital where the inside temperature will be cool.
Methodist Hospital will furnish free hot dogs, drinks and popcorn. New West band will play cool tunes, and KIT-2-4 Superheroes, Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman, Elvis impersonator James Wages and McGruff will entertain the kids and adults alike.
What?’s more, tours of authentic police and military vehicles, fire engines and ambulances will be available. There will be free child photo ID kits, clowns and a petting zoo.
So, come out (remember to put your porch light on) and join your neighbors and other Oak Cliff neighborhoods for a fun evening Aug. 2 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Methodist Hospital in the Hitt Auditorium and parking lot at Bishop and Colorado. Look for the North Cliff N.A. table and signup to become involved. Police officers will direct drivers to the free parking, which include the freight area of the Service Building, an employee parking lot on Bishop and the Pavilion parking garage. (The Service Building?’s open parking lot will be used for National Night Out activites, such as the petting zoo.)
Nationally, this is the 22nd Annual National Night Out, a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, more than 34 million people participated in last year.
National Night Out is designed to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
