Our most recent street beautification project totaled 16 enhanced sidewalk ramps that were dyed brick red and brick stamped; 13 ramps were on Ravinia from Clarendon to Catherine and three sidewalk ramps, yet to be poured, are on 12th Street from Ravinia to Pierce. Each enhanced ramp cost $500.

We raised the bulk of the money from grants and fund drives but needed an additional $2,200. The cash crunch occurred because both street projects, Ravinia and 12th Street, finished at the same time, which wasn?’t supposed to happen.
Desperate for money we visited our Councilwoman Dr. Elba Garcia and asked if she could help us raise the money.

Several weeks later we met with her again and she told us she had raised $1,500 for us and asked if we could raise the other $750. We said we could. We thanked her, and thanked her again. One North Cliff neighbor was so grateful to Dr. Garcia for raising the money for us that she baked cookies for Dr. Garcia?’s two sons and delivered them to her council office the following day. The North Cliff N.A. board sent a glowing thank you card.
Dr. Garcia raised the $2,000 by asking Oak Cliff business owner Monte Anderson of Options Realty to come to our aid. He quickly wrote a check for $1,500. Dr. Garcia raised the remaining $500 from Bob Garza.

Monte Anderson is a long-time Oak Cliff resident, past president of the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce and an Oak Cliff real estate developer. Thank you Monte Anderson for your commitment to Oak Cliff.

And a big thank you to Bob Garza and to Dr. Garcia who went beyond the call for duty to help our neighborhood in our time of need.
