Mr. hiroad. I have some further thoughts here, but have been sick again these past couple days. I see your angle and agree to some extent. Tomorrow then.

Actually, I think a consumption tax would be the best tax.  Although if you are going to have an income tax, I think no one should be exempt.   Look what exemptions got us: More people at the trough than are bringing the slop!  As long as people can vote for that, it will only get worse.  Socialism is fine until you run out of other people's money (like what is happening now).

In the words of T. Coleman Andrews: "I don't like the income tax.  Every time we talk about these taxes we get around the idea of 'from each according to his capacity and to each according to his needs'.  That's socialism.  It's written into the communist manifesto.  Maybe we ought to see that every person who gets a tax return receives a copy of the communist manifesto with it so he can see what's happening to him"

No thanks to commies. No thanks to free rides and no thanks to a strangle hold consumption tax. On the outside that seems a workable option. But once we consider ALL the consumption taxes we already pay, well 96% of the average employed American's wages are taxed, taxed again, then taxed again and again until 30% of every dime the consumer spends is some form of tax. Consumption taxed to death already. Now take away the income tax and as stated by several here already, 51% of Americans pay no tax, so the already forced consumption tax still goes to those employed with the least % of all the wealth to continue to aupport the rest who actually buy less per capita because they either have NO money or are in that 10% with 90% of all the money. That leaves 90% of the people who have so little left to spend each paycheck that any tax is a killer. Nope, flat tax is the only honest way to go. Forbes looks funny but he's right.
