Thanks for the information, I thought the VP  would take over  but wasn't sure who would become VP in that case or would there be charges etc., anyway thanks.

To get an idea of how this works think back to the era when VP Spiro Agnew resigned rather than go to jail.   Richard Nixon appointed Gerald Ford to be his VP.   Then when Nixon resigned rather than go to jail, Ford became president.   He in turn appointed Nelson Rockefeller to be his VP.  They both served out the remainder of their one term until superseded by an elected President, Jimmy Carter.
