www.freecycle.org is a FREE site. It's free to use, free to give away items and free to ask for items. I have no idea how/why you were ever asked for money, but it wasn't on that site. There IS a donate button at the top for those who are interested, but there are no requests for any kind of payment at any time. I've used the site for a long time to give away items I don't need and to ask for items I would like.

One more time: freecyle is FREE and ALL items listed are free. You cannot sell something there.
