I read an article somewhere the other day that stated that convicts made approximately .40 cents per hour.
So why couldnt wal-mart enter into an agreement with the prison systems, to employ our convicts. They could set up sweat shops in the prisons. Pay the convicts $1.25 an hour to manufacture, assemble or package products.
If walmart paid a convict $1.25 an hour, first of all TAX IT! give the convict .50, and the prison the remainder. Therein we have created a new group of people to tax, raised wages for the convicts, and also with the prisons getting a portion, offsetting the housing costs of inmates.
The upside for walmart would be, they could go back to the slogan of buying u.s.a. made products, the ability to pay way below minimum wage, and jacking the prices up to make a killing in profits.
If the products were made here they could stop buying from countries that use child labor.
While this was written jokingly, it is still an excellant idea, one that would benefit everyone in volved.
