"Congress, in a symbolically important milestone, voted to override President George Bush's veto today for the first time since he took over the White House.
Republican senators joined their Democratic counterparts to vote 79 to 14 to push through a popular bill that will provide billons in extra funds for the Army Corps of Engineers.
Much of the money is to build flood control systems and other water projects, including in New Orleans and other Gulf areas hit by Hurricane Katrina two years ago.
The House of Representatives voted on Tuesday by 361 to 54 for the bill. Two-thirds of both chambers have to support a measure in order to bypass a presidential veto."
