July 22: Bargaining starts between GPC and the UFCW 86D Executive committee
August 11: Union makes its first proposal, includes increasing wages from over $20/hour to $40/hour in a 3-year period
August 13: GPC makes its "inital" wage propsal for an increase in wages of $1.85 over 5 years.
August 14: GPC says public records show UFCW 86D filed an application with the police department requesting a permit to picket "practice and strike" at GPC. The company says the police department denied the request.
August 15: GPC says it offers its third economic propsal with a wage increase of $3.45 an hour, and claims it also improves the pension benefit.
Augst 21: Union leaders proposal to GPC continuing under the current terms of the contract for an additional two weeks.
August 22: GPC tells the union it is denying the request for the two weeks and plans to lock out union employees at midnight.
Aguust 23: Union workers begin picketing at GPC plant entrances
August 25: GPC and union leaders meet with a federal mediator. GPC says it asked union leaders to bring the proposed contract to union members for a secret ballot vote. According to GPC, the union leaders denied the request.
August 29: GPC leaders meet with the Union and an International UFCW representative. The union presented a verbal propsal which was later submitted in writing.
September 8: GPC rejects the union's propsal, saying it was unreasonable and uncompetitive.
