Did anyone else read the Journal article about Monday being the one year anniversary of no parking meters on Second street?  I for one think  the parking is worse since they took the meters out.  I really hate going down town.  I wish they would consider building a parking garage even if it is only for down town employees or those who live in the downtown apartments.

It's one of those no-win situations. No matter what the town does, half the people are gonna be pi$$ed.
Road Rage

I posted once but somehow it didn't go thru so will try again.

The downtown parking is not what it should be.  I am down there every day of the week and I see the people who are working down there parking in those spots. The blocks between Iowa Ave and Cedar are the worse. They park in front of where they work and thru out the day they come out and just move to another place if one is available.  I hve watched the people get out of their cars and go into work at the businesses on both sides of second street and Iowa Ave. There is a parking lot behind the old maid rite building but the people park on second street and go in there and work and so the ones in the building across the street , not even sure what is in there, it is the tall building, used to be Pennys or something. Also see the people who run the hammer and wedge parking in front most of the day.  This is not what the parking meters were taken out for.   Many of these people are capable of parking on the river front and walking, after all it is only a block.

There are parking lots that people can have their spot reserved for them - of course they must pay for this. IF you are a business owner and parking in the 3 hour free parking spots you are INDEED paying for that privelege by taking up space where a paying customer COULD park.
