I live in a nice neighborhood, with friendly enough neighbors.  We don't know them well, but well enough that we'd all kind of watch out for each-other.  I've loaned a garden tool or two, and had a nice neighbor clear my driveway when my snow-blower quit.

During the wind storm when everyone lost power, my next door neighbor (know them, but not really well, they haven't lived here that long)...knocked on my door to ask me if I had an electric sump-pump.  I did, and of course it wasn't working.  He brought over his portable generator and plugged my sump into it long enough to pump it out, which kept my basement dry and eventually the power came back on!  I would never have thought of this, and he saved me from ending up with a flooded basement.   everyone helped everyone clear trees all week.

we like our neighbors just fine, but we don't really hang out with any of them, but they're all friendly and decent neighbors.  No "neighbor from hell" story here.

I just moved into my new house a few months back. I haven't gotten to know many of my neighbors. I was surprised to learn that I live next door to a couple that I went to school with and just lost touch with as the years went by. I also know one that lives across the street from me who is a nice elderly lady that I have only known by shopping at Hy-vee and seeing her there. I live in a neighborhood with more elderly people that are very kind. I do have one neighbor that lives on the other side of me that I haven't had the chance to really get to know since they don't speak much English, and they as well as their guests like to park in my yard or block my garage, and they have been building a new porch and they wait until almost 10pm to start working on it, and they just say they don't speak English every time I try and ask them to stop since I have had to be up at 4am to get ready for work and they are on the side of our bedrooms. They say the same thing when I ask them to move their cars. I would hate to be the royal Bi__h on the block, but I am about to start calling the police when they are making so much noise and have their cars towed when they park in my yard or block my garage. Maybe that is the only way they will get what I am saying in English.

They also like to play their what I call chimichaga music ( don't get me wrong I don't mind it at all) but when I can here it in my living room or bedrooms at all hours of the night and can feel the bass in my home then it is way to loud. They still do nothing about it when I try to ask them to turn it down.

I was told when I got this house, that those neighbors where a little upset that they where not given an opportunity to purchase it, since they have wanted to for their son. Well the owner of my house was a family member and when he passed away, we just bought it from the estate, it never went on the market and that is what really upset them. Oh well I guess this is their little way of getting me back for buying the house they wanted. If that is how they want to be, I will teach them a few English words fast, one being the Police, and the others being Towed at owner's expense. STAY OFF MY LAWN, AND TURN YOUR MUSIC DOWN!!

I wish my neighbors would knock on the door to complain instead of the police or the city. I have one neighbor that has and I go into sonic speed trying to take care of the problem. I don't want nor do I try to irritate my neighbors. If my neighbors makes noise to early or their dog barks constantly I just suck it up and live with it. I had a small gather of family and some friends block my friendly neighbors drive. he came over and ask for it to be moved and in 5 mins it was, then I apologized and thanked them for not calling the police! the two other neighbors just call the police or city. I am not the neighbor of the year nor am I the worst neighbor. In my opinion it is pretty sad that people will not knock on my door and ask me, I will respect that more than a visit by local law enforcement. mainly I feel bad when someone says I am bothering them. so I try to fix the problem. when the law shows up I get a little upset that these people have to waste the policeman's time instead of being an adult and just ask.   It just scares me when the police are called to handle a simple problem. Now I am not trying to say bad things about our police, but the fact is they are geared to deal with situations with violence. now I know that their training saves lives but sometimes it is not necessary. I know of one guy in town who wrestled with the police over a domestic and got his neck broke. Now I am not blaming anyone and I'm sure no one wanted that to happen, but the fact is, bad choices with the police and he is forever injured. now if the neighbor has asked me and I am still doing it then I get what I deserve. I don't want to p*&^ my neighbors off. just ask that is all I ask. aussie you have asked and it sounds like more than once. I have much respect for that. but now It may take the police to get your point across. what else can one do. you showed much respect and they continue to disrespect you.

my neighbor plows their sidewalks with a quad runner or some tractor. they will plow theirs and then run mine over, smashing mine down. when I get home I have two icy tracks down my sidewalk instead of fresh snow. every time too. but I just suck it up and shovel it by hand!(I don't have a machine to do it!) I don't see it as a problem worth a big ordeal, so I just do it! It does bother me, cause now it is harder to shovel, but not enough to b@$%h about it! that is what neighbors do right. they learn to get along! well I will keep sucking it up and they will probably keep resorting to the city and the police! what can you do!

Nowadays people generally don't know their neighbors well enough to ask them to quit doing what it is that's offensive. People have guns! I had neighbors selling drugs. Their philosophy was that my yard was their yard and they didn't give 2 cents about disturbing anybody else at 2am with rap "music" that could literally be heard 2 blocks away.  Do you think I'd knock on their door to ask them to turn down "music" that was literally vibrating pictures off my wall? Nope! Not when I see the type of people that used to hang around there.

And at the risk of irritating you, there's NO excuse for EVER blocking somebody's drive! Your neighbor shouild NEVER have to ask you to have one of your friends move a car. It shouldn't have been parked there in the first place.

I knock on the door or stick my head out when they are all outside every single time, I figure there has to be at least one person in their group that speaks English to be able to translate it for me. I have had it where their grand children where visiting and those little kids helped me with it, so that I could at least pull out of my garage.

I would expect that from my neighbors as well, if I was doing something they didn't like let me know so I can fix it now. I don't want to upset my neighbors, I would just prefer that we all got along.
